Introduction

The photographer uses an exaggerated way to present a series of fake face expressions, stress the lies and the behavior of being against our true feeling.

Idea

First I was inspired by an America drama called "Lie to me". It shows many cases of judging whether somebody lie or not by observing the detail of their expression and body language. Besides the words, expression is another way of getting information from others. However people are used to hide their real feeling and like to act out a fake expression, thus it sometimes lies us. Moreover, the ideas of face close up shot and using High-key&Low-key technic are getting from Ms Chiang Jing Ying. That's make the theme more outstanding and clearer.

Technic

In my work, I list a series of different emotions. In order to emphasize the "fake" and "artificial", the models are required to be relaxed and not make any expression, meanwhile using external way to hold their muscle. Take "Anger" as an example, I use tap to move up the eyebrows, and use clamp to grip the forehead. Low-key or High-key technic is applied on each photo based on which gives the best result and more suitable for presenting the expression .

Reflection

The primary difficulty is that it is hard to conivnce my models to place those tools, such as tap and clamps, on their faces. Since some of my models really felt very uncomfortable, I had to change the setting of some photos. Therefore, the final work is not as impressive and exaggerated as my initial plan.

For the future plans and improvements, I would like to adding more elements and story behind each expression. As the theme is expression lies people, there may have condition or situation that makes people to show fake expression. For example, the situation that let people pretend to be sad can be at a funeral, which will be more ironic.
